WAGENDRIFT NATURE RESERVE - CAMPING & CARAVANNING
The scenic Wagendrift Nature Reserve surrounds the Wagendrift Dam and is situated
just off the main N3 highway near Estcourt. Boating and fishing are the primary guest activities
around the dam, and a relaxed three kilometre self-guided trail winds along the Bushmans River
providing opportunity to observe the wildlife and bird life of the reserve.
Scaly, bluegill, bass, carp, eel and the occasional trout are caught in the dam by keen
freshwater fishermen. The easy three kilometre self-guided Furrow Trail follows the course of an
old irrigation furrow, built in 1903 and provides exciting game viewing opportunities.
On the southern side of the dam there are large fossil beds with many fossilised trees lying
exposed at ground level. Two spacious and shady electrified campsites with 27 sites and 12 sites
respectively accommodate both caravans and tents. Campsites have shared coldwater taps and barbecue
facilities. The modern ablutions feature hot showers and baths, flush toilets, dishwashing and
laundry facilities.
Wagendrift Nature Reserve also features a fully equipped, self-catering chalet for the
convenience of guests.
