SPIOENKOP GAME RESERVE - CAMPING & CARAVANNING

 
Spioenkop Mountain stands as an ever-watchful sentry over the expansive thorn savannah and tranquil waters of Spioenkop Dam and nature reserve. Spioenkop is rich in local history and the mountain was the scene of the famous Battle of Spioenkop where the British suffered one of their worst defeats by the Boers during the Anglo Boer War.   

The battlefield site is accessible by road and the panoramic view from the summit is spectacular. Spioenkop Dam is an outstanding venue for water-sports in a scenic game-reserve environment. White rhino, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and a wide variety of antelope and bird species can be found here. The Discovery Trail, split into three kilometre and six kilometre loops, winds around the dam’s southern shore in an area free of dangerous game. Spioenkop’s two electrified campsites, each with fifteen spacious sites, accommodate both tents and caravans. The campsites share coldwater taps and barbecue facilities with firewood and charcoal for sale. The modern ablutions feature hot baths and showers, flush toilets, dishwashing and laundry facilities.

Spioenkop also provides a bush camp for the convenience of guests.
