FOUR DAYS SELF CATERING-BEST OF THE MIDLANDS
DAY ONE
MIDMAR
Take up residence in your chalet overlooking Munro Bay. Midmar offers opportunities
which range from game viewing, water sports, angling, and cycling. Skiing, sailing, kite boarding
and jet boating are all catered for in various sections of the dam. Midmar is also the heart of the
Midlands Meander, a range of crafters, artists, potters and some excellent restaurants.
DAYS TWO AND THREE
WEENEN GAME RESERVE
Head up the N3 and at Estcourt head down into the thornveld to Weenen Game Reserve. Take up
your accommodation in the Weenen Cottage with its exclusive barbecue spot overlooking your private
waterhole. With a host of wildlife including black and white rhino and 251 recorded species of
bird, this corner of Africa`s savannah makes early morning and late afternoon game viewing drives a
must. The opportunity to walk in the wilder parts of the reserve with a friendly field ranger to
guide you is an experience not to be missed. Having your breakfast or lunch at one of the three
picnic sites, each with its own special character makes for memorable days.
DAY FOUR
KAMBERG NATURE RESERVE
UKHAHLAMBA DRAKENSBERG PARK
Head back down the N3 to Mooi River and turn towards Rosetta and on to Kamberg.
This pretty reserve, which is a haven for fly fishermen, now also has an excellent rock art
interpretive centre. Take up your accommodation in the recently upgraded en-suite chalets. At the
rock art centre there is a very worthwhile audio visual presentation which is a must for those
people who are going to walk up to Game Pass shelter. A late afternoon walk along the Little Mooi
before relaxing in the camp as the light seeps out of the surrounding mountains.
DAY FIVE
KAMBERG NATURE RESERVE
UKHAHLAMBA DRAKENSBERG PARK
An early rise and pack your vehicle as you must vacate your unit by 10h00. Meet your
guide at the office and walk up to Game Pass shelter to see some of the best rock art in the
Drakensberg.
