DAY ONE
MANTUMA CAMP
MKHUZE GAME RESERVE
Wind through the Lebombo mountains into Mkhuze Game Reserve and make your way to
Mantuma Camp. Take up residence in your comfortable chalet. Take your lunch through to the camp
swimming pool and relax after your trip. As the afternoon starts to cool off, taking binoculars and
camera, set off for a game viewing drive along the Mkuze River flood plain to Nsumo Pan. Apart from
crocs and hippos, the bird life on the pan is excellent and the observation platforms allow you an
elevated view.
DAY TWO
MANTUMA CAMP
MKHUZE GAME RESERVE
Have an early breakfast and then make your way to Bube Hide to watch the comings and goings
of a wonderful variety of animals and birds to the waterhole. This is a photographer`s paradise and
many famous wildlife photographs have been taken here. Lunch can either be at one of the picnic
sites or return to camp in the heat of the day and relax at the swimming pool. Later on drive
through to Masinga Hide and enjoy this view into the natural world at a different venue. As evening
comes, take the loop road via Nyakaza back to camp.
DAY THREE
MPILA CAMP
IMFOLOZI GAME RESERVE
Pack early and drive to the KwaJobe cultural village and craft market where you can gain an
insight into the way of life of these tribal people and purchase a memento of this beautiful part
of the world. Leave the reserve and head south on the N2 to Mtubatuba where you turn right on to
the Nongoma road and enter Imfolozi Game Reserve via Nyalazi Gate. On your way to Mpila Camp stop
off at the new Centenary Capture Centre where you can purchase a light lunch. The animal pens,
capture museum and audio visual presentation gives you a view into this fascinating world of
conservation management and game capture. At Mpila book into your comfortable chalet and relax. In
the late afternoon drive down to the Unkaya Viewsite overlooking the Black Mfolozi River. Time
spent here with binoculars can be very rewarding with buffalo, elephant and lion being frequent
users of the sandbanks and reedbeds along this section of river.
DAY FOUR
MPILA CAMP
IMFOLOZI GAME RESERVE
Rise early and pack your breakfast and lunch for a fulfilling day in the beautiful west of
the reserve. Make your way to the Sontuli loop, driving slowly, looking out for birds and animals.
The Sontuli loop along the Black Mfolozi river is frequented by all of the big five and game
viewing is very rewarding. Sontuli picnic site on the river presents an ideal spot for breakfast.
As you continue on around the loop and head for Mbhejane(Black Rhino) Hide in the Ngolotsha area
animals abound. The smells and sounds of this wonderful part of KwaZulu-Natal are so evocative they
will remain in your memory forever.
Your evening is spent relaxing in front of your chalet on Mpila hill (the place of health)
looking out over the Imfolozi wilderness.
DAY FIVE
CHARTER`S CREEK CAMP
THE GREATER ST LUCIA WETLAND PARK
Rise and pack your vehicle and drive, game viewing as you go, into Hluhluwe Game Reserve
which is the northern section of Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park. This will give you the opportunity to see
this more mountainous and forested part of the park. Call in at Hilltop Camp with its very scenic
setting and views and enjoy brunch or a early lunch. Continue to Memorial Gate and drive to
Charter`s Creek via Hluhluwe Village. A dip in the swimming pool to refresh and a late afternoon
hike along the uMkumbe Trail with a field ranger. The changing colours of Lake St Lucia as the sun
sets makes a wonderful backdrop for your sundowners and evening barbecue.
