ORIBI GORGE NATURE RESERVE - ACCOMMODATION OVERVIEW

 
The Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve lies snugly at the head of a spectacular river gorge lined with dense coastal bush and forests, just inland of Port Shepstone. The breathtaking scenery along the Umzimkulwana River gorge is a photographer's and nature lover's paradise.

Oribi Gorge has a wealth of smaller wildlife species and visitors have occasionally seen leopards.Oribi Gorge is a magnificent birding destination with more than 250-recorded species. Self-guided trails descend into the gorge or follow the edge of the gorge providing magnificent views of the surrounding countryside.

Oribi Gorge Camp consists of 6 x 2 bed rest Huts.  Each has its own shower and toilet, two single beds and a small fridge. C utlery and crockery is supplied for two people as well as a toaster, kettle and table fan. A dining table and chairs as well as lounge chairs and coffee table are also included. Plastic garden chairs are supplied for sitting around a very basic/rustic fireplace which is found in front of each unit.

The above 6 units have access to a communal kitchen. This kitchen has 2 stoves, 1 microwave, pots, pans etc. for those visitors who want to cook meals.  Also a sink for washing dishes.

1 x 6 bed chalet. This chalet is booked out to Occupancy Solutions for 45 weeks of the year.  It consists of 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom (including toilet), 1 separate shower, 1 separate toilet.  1 bedroom has a kingsize bed and the other two rooms consist of 2 single beds in each room.  The lounge/dining room is equipped with lounge suite and dining room suite. The kitchen is fully equipped with 4 plate electric stove, cutlery, crockery, toaster, kettle, pots and pans etc.  This unit has a lovely front verandah with wooden patio furniture as well as a rustic braai in the front.

1 x 10 bed rustic cottage. This cottage has 4 bedrooms, 3 rooms have 2 single beds per room, 1 room has 4 single beds. One of the rooms leads to its own bathroom which consists of a bath, shower and toilet. The other 3 bedrooms share a single bath with a separate toilet. This house is a very ‘old’ farm style house with a very large front verandah as well as a large back verandah.  It has its own furnished lounge and dining room. The kitchen is equipped with crockery and cutlery. It must be noted that this is a very ‘old’ rustic farm house which is in need of major repairs. It is however in its own lovely setting.  A very rustic/basic braai facility is to be found in front of the cottage.

5 campsites.  These campsites allow a maximum of 6 people per site, have their own braai place, electrical plug point and light. A rustic/basic dish wash up facility is supplied. The ablution block consists of ladies and gents, each section has a separate toilet,  separate shower as well as a bathroom with bath and toilet.

Oribi Gorge attracts nature loving people, who enjoy the quietness of being in a nature reserve. Oribi is still one of the areas that when sitting around your fireplace in the evenings visitors may still hear the call of the black backed jackal, nightjars and owls. With over 200 bird species being identified at Oribi, this is a bird watchers paradise attracting birders from all over the world and SA. Another attraction are the lovely self guided hiking trails. These range from 1 to 9 kilometres

A "barbecue boma" in the camp is a great venue for groups of people and the communal lounge features satellite television for guests. A reservoir swimming pool with its own sundeck is a unique attraction for camp residents.
