NORTHPARK NATURE RESERVE - OVERVIEW
Covered by valuable natural forest and adjacent to the Umhlahazana river, 52 hectares of land was proclaimed as the North Park Nature Reserve in 1968.
Birdlife is plentiful and about 160 species have been recorded. The park is also home to large numbers of butterfly species. There are lots of short walks available all year round. A variety of small mammals can be seen in North Park including blue and grey duiker, various members of the mongoose family, hyrax and cane rats.

102 different tree species have been recorded of which 48 are considered rare. Originally the river was crossed by a causeway, which was replaced by a bridge after the 1929 floods. The North family cemetery lies within the Nature Reserve. A picnic site, barbecue facilities, public toilets and parking are available.
