WILDLIFE PARKS - ACTIVITIES
Wilderness Trails:The whistling of cicadas, signalling the heat of the noon.... A community
of forest birds chattering overhead, silenced by the crunch of footsteps along a path... Glistening
grasslands, flowing in the wind, backlit by the dying sun...The roars of lion resonating across a
plain, interrupting a nightjar's soft call in the moonlight... Live for a time in the wilderness,
even a day or two, and these are impressions you will retain forever.
Imfolozi wilderness trails (2-4 nights) are undertaken in the 25000ha wilderness zone
of the Hluhluwe Imfolozi park. Here there are no roads and access is only on foot. The area is
maintained in a pristine state and kept as undisturbed by man as possible. The presence of the 'big
five' adds an adrenaline charged element to the pleasure of experiencing the park's magnificent
diversity of fauna and flora. Each of the four different types of trail is led by two experienced
trails staff members.
Game drives (day)Day drives are conducted in open viewing vehicles, accompanied by an
experienced field ranger (Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park, Mkhuze, Ithala, Ndumo). Night drives These drives
afford interesting glimpses of the nocturnal species, seldom if ever seen during the day. These
include the thick-tailed bushbaby, leopard, white-tailed mongoose, small-spotted genet, hyena,
aardvark and porcupine. Nocturnal birds include nightjars, owls and dikkops (Hluhluwe Imfolozi park
, Mkhuze, Ithala).
