SPIOENKOP GAME RESERVE - ACCOMMODATION
Spioenkop Mountain stands as an ever-watchful sentry over the expansive thorn
savannah and tranquil waters of Spioenkop Dam and nature reserve. Spioenkop is rich in local
history and the mountain was the scene of the famous Battle of Spioenkop where the British suffered
one of their worst defeats by the Boers during the Anglo Boer War.
The battlefield site is accessible by road and the panoramic view from the summit is
spectacular.
Spioenkop Dam is an outstanding venue for water-sports in a scenic game-reserve environment.
White rhino, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and a wide variety of antelope and bird species can be
found here.
The Discovery Trail, split into three kilometre and six kilometre loops, winds around the
dam's southern shore in an area free of dangerous game. Picnic sites are scattered all around the
dam shore.
iPhika tented bush camp is situated on the slopes of Spioenkop Mountain overlooking a
waterhole and features a stone and thatch lounge/bar/dining area, separate kitchen with gas fridge
and stove, two two-bed safari tents set on wooden platforms and a communal hot water ablution
facility. Three six-bed chalets feature three bedrooms, bathroom, lounge/dining room, kitchen and
barbecue facilities. Camping is also available.
