ACCOMMODATION IN KZN WILDLIFE`S PARKS

KZN Wildlife`s wonderful range of accommodation from luxury lodge to cave.

KZN Wildlife`s two major operational goals are the effective and sustainable management of the provinces biodiversity and natural resources and to provide the facilities that allow communities and the public at large, access to, and sustainable benefits from,  these natural resources.
To that end, KZN Wildlife provides a range of carefully situated accommodation, in areas of exceptional beauty, to suit every taste and pocket.
Stretching from the magnificent uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park in the mountains in the west, across the expanse of the exquisitely beautiful green hills of KwaZulu-Natal, to the rugged splendour of the game reserves of Zululand and on to the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park, fringed by the endless golden beaches of the Indian ocean coast.
Opportunities for unique encounters with wildlife and breathtaking scenery abound and our guests can satisfy their every desire for discovery, adventure or relaxation in some of Africa’s most exciting and scenic natural surroundings.

Navigation links on the left hand side of your screen will allow you to view each reserve and the accommodation it offers, as well as a photo gallery so you can see exactly what the accommodation and its facilities consist of.

Here is a guide to the different types of facility to help you select the perfect spot for your holiday.

We call our collections of accommodation units 'hutted camps' to distinguish them from our 'campsites' where you provide your own accommodation in the form of caravans or tents.

CHALETS
Chalets are self-contained serviced units with one, two or three bedrooms, lounge/dining room, bathroom, toilet and fully equipped kitchenette. Linen is provided. Visitors do their own cooking and washing up but the units are serviced every day.
In Hilltop Camp in Hluhluwe, Ntshondwe Camp in Ithala and Didima Camp in Cathedral Peak there are non self-catering units. These units have a small fridge and a kettle, are fully serviced and have an en-suite bathroom. Visitors eat at the camp restaurant.

LOG CABINS
Log cabins usually have two or three bedrooms with five or eight beds or bunks. They contain a lounge/dining room, bathroom, toilet and fully equipped kitchen. Linen is provided. Visitors do their own cooking and washing up but the units are serviced every day.

REST HUTS
Rest huts have one bedroom with two, three or four beds and are equipped with a refrigerator, crockery, cutlery and linen. They vary in size and are either round (rondavels) or rectangular (squaredavels) There are communal kitchens and ablutions.

COTTAGES
Cottages consist of three bedrooms, a bathroom and toilet, lounge/dining room and a kitchen. They are fully equipped with linen, towels, crockery, cutlery and kitchen utensils. Six people can be accommodated. A cook is provided to prepare the food supplied by the visitor.

RUSTIC COTTAGES
Rustic cottages have numerous bedrooms, a kitchen, lounge/dining room and bathroom. Crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils and a gas fridge and stove are provided. Visitors must bring their own linen and towels. In the cases where there is no electricity, such as Stillerust in Kamberg and Simes in Lotheni, gas lamps are provided.

CABINS
The cabins at Injisuthi consist of one bedroom and an open plan room with two beds. These units are fully equipped and have a kitchenette, bathroom and toilet and a lounge/dining room. Dormitory cabins at Cape Vidal have 8, 12 or 20 beds. Linen is provided. Visitors must do their own cooking.

MOUNTAIN/TRAIL HUTS
Mountain/trail huts contain four, eight or fifteen beds. Only basic facilities such as cold water and a toilet are provided. Visitors may have to share the accommodation with other hikers and must provide all their own equipment.

LODGES
Lodges are luxurious secluded guest houses. Six people can be accommodated in three bedrooms which are usually en-suite. They have a lounge, dining room, a fully equipped kitchen and a guest toilet. Each lodge has a cook in attendance.

BUSH LODGES
Bush lodges provide an opportunity for visitors to enjoy complete privacy in unspoilt natural surroundings. The style of each is unique and construction is of natural materials such as reeds and thatch. They sleep eight in four en-suite bedrooms. There is a lounge/dining room and a fully equipped kitchen. Each has a caretaker who is responsible for washing up and servicing the units. A Field ranger is available on request for walks in the reserve.

BUSH CAMPS
Bush camps are rustic units built of natural materials in secluded, natural surrounds. They sleep four, eight or ten people in two bedded rooms. There are communal bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and a lounge/dining room. Linen and towels are supplied. Visitors do all their own cooking and washing up.

TENTED CAMPS
Tented camps consist of canvas tents on a wooden platform. Each tent is fully furnished with two beds, cupboard, table and chairs. There is an en-suite bathroom and a fully equipped kitchenette.

CAVES
In the uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park certain caves are available to hikers for overnight accommodation. Caves with rock art are precluded from use and hikers may not camp in them. Fires are not permitted in any cave and hikers must be fully equipped with sleeping and cooking equipment. There are no toilet facilities and hikers are requested walk at least five minutes away from a cave before attending to ablution needs. All refuse must be collected and removed from the park when hikers leave.

CAMPGROUNDS
KZN Wildlife provides camping facilities in most of its reserves. These vary from campsites with water and electric points, full ablutions with hot and cold water as well as laundry facilities, to very rustic campsites with only cold water.
In the majority of cases each campsite is clearly marked and is suitable for caravans or tents. Campers must have their own equipment and are not allowed to camp ‘rough’ or just in their vehicle unless the vehicle ha s the facilities to permit this.
