Isimangaliso Wetland Park - False Bay
False Bay Park is situated along the Western Shores of False Bay which is part of Lake St. Lucia a recently declared world heritage site. Containing important marine fossils of both animals and coral which can be viewed in an attractive interpretive centre, the reserve also has a variety of habitats such as sand forests, thornveld and an open savannah. Â
This variety provides excellent bird watching and game viewing and two self-guided trails have been established for visitors to enjoy these activities. Other popular activities are boating and fishing. Accommodation is provided in campsites along the shoreline overlooking the Lake. They are situated both north and south of Lister point. Dungandlovu Rustic Camp has four huts each equipped with four beds. Basic comforts include good drinking water, firewood and a deepfreeze, no bedding is provided. The viewing platform on the lakeside of the camp at sunset commands magnificent views of the Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park.
NB
Visitors intending to visit Charter`s Creek, Fani`s Island or False Bay should be aware of the drought conditions that are currently being experienced in northern KwaZulu-Natal, particularly over the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park. There are no boat tours from Charter`s Creek and fishing or the launching of boats from any of the three camps is not possible because of the low level of Lake St Lucia.
